Key Stage 4
Years Eleven and Twelve

Pupils in Years 11 and 12 follow a two year programme of study leading to a GCSE qualification. It is normal practice for students to select at least nine GCSE subjects. Subject choices are carefully explained to pupils in careers classes and a parents’ evening is held before choices are confirmed. Each pupil is required to select a combination of subjects which conforms to the national curriculum requirement for a broad, balanced and coherent programme of study. However, there is sufficient flexibility in the system to allow for a degree of specialisation that takes account of each pupil’s aptitudes and interests.
